Spirit's End - Chapter 4An official inquiry began even before the transport ship arrived back at the nearest alliance station. News spread hot over the wires, and rumor flew rampant. Some claimed the war was beginning again. Others claimed the child was proof of a Randin slave trade. Everyone seemed interested in knowing what the attack on a fleet ship meant for the peace treaty. Everyone wanted to know the fate of the rescued girl.
Spirit's End - Chapter 3"Don't you dare give me statistical impossibility, Wrex. I don't want to hear it." Jess spoke in a hushed voice, still cradling the dozing kit within her arms. There had been quite a fuss when the major emerged from the cargo bay with the girl. A quick exchange between the two, and an equally quick denial of the readings from the scanner. Through the entire exchange, the girl dozed on, as if there was nothing at all wrong in the world.
Spirit's End - Chapter 2If there had been warning, perhaps things would not have ended as they did. The vast majority of those who were recruited into the alliance were no more than children. In the dark of space, they lost their ships, their names, and their very lives. The only thing that remained to connect some fragment of tissue to a person that once lived vibrantly, was a unique DNA marker. That was what Jess had spent the past year searching for. That was the thing that brought her to the Far Horizon Outpost.
